A little care.
Many good cooks.
Prepare your Firecooker for its first use, then build a care routine around the materials and components in your setup.
Start with your model’s instructions.
Seasoning prepares the appropriate cooking surfaces before first use. Check the Use and Care Guide supplied with your unit to confirm which surfaces should be treated and how to complete the initial burn.
Steel and stainless steel are different.
Your Firecooker combines a steel cooking chamber with stainless-steel components. Follow the care instructions for each material; do not apply stainless-steel polishing or abrasive treatments to painted steel.
An even coating. A controlled first burn.
The original Cardinal seasoning guidance calls for a thin, even coating of high-smoke-point oil, followed by heating at 350–400°F for one to two hours. Use the instructions supplied with your particular cooker to confirm the surfaces, oil, and first-burn procedure before starting.
If your unit’s guide differs, follow that guide. Contact Cardinal if you are unsure which components should be seasoned or whether a new accessory needs separate preparation.
Give it time to cool.
Always allow the Firecooker to cool completely before cleaning. Remove cleaner residue before using it again, and choose products appropriate for the material you are cleaning.
Work with the grain.
For stainless-steel surfaces, clean in the direction of the grain. Heat-related discolouration can occur. Ask Cardinal before using an abrasive product or attempting to remove scratches.
Protect the finish.
Use the cleaning and maintenance procedure specified for your model’s steel and painted surfaces. Contact our team for guidance on corrosion, damaged paint, or other finish concerns.
Plan for the next gathering.
Before extended storage or a change of season, review the care instructions for your model and accessories. Ask our team about suitable covers and the maintenance your setup needs.
